Overview
Har Ki Dun, located in the Garhwal Himalayas at, is a hanging valley that is renowned for its magnificent beauty and is considered to be one of the most beautiful of the hiking sites in Uttarakhand. The trail passes through woods that are abundant in flora and animals, a succession of charming settlements perched on the cliffs, the lovely experience of camping by a lively mountain river, and a breathtaking panorama of snow-capped mountains. The path has been around for a very long time and is rife with tales. Some people believe that it is the same path that the Pandavas in the Mahabharata took on their way to heaven while they were ascending to paradise. The legendary ascent to heaven is said to have begun on Swargarohini, the snow-capped mountain that can be seen in the distance during this walk. The Duryodhana Temple in the hamlet of Osla, which is located along this path, is one of the noteworthy historical artefacts that should be mentioned. Because of the lush greenery interspersed with rhododendrons, orchids, and other types of flowers, the Har Ki Doon Trek is particularly popular throughout the summer and after the rainy season. The fact that the track spends the most of its time running in thick forest cover eliminates the dangers of altitude adaptation, making the hike suitable for novices and younger hikers alike. The hike will require around five hours of trekking each day on average, but since it is so well connected with the surrounding communities, the trail is replete with basic amenities like quaint cafés that serve refreshing fare along the way. The difficulty of the Har Ki Doon trip, in addition to the lengthy hours of walking over the course of six long days, is having to hike in the rain. The best time of the year to go on this walk is not in the winter after it has snowed but rather in the summer when it rains a lot. Rain trekking essentials such as ponchos, waterproof covers, anti-diarrhea medicine, and water-resistant trekking boots have to be checked off the list first when packing for this journey. Although moving through green foliage that is dripping with pearls of rain is a beautiful experience, trekkers must be well-equipped for it.

Trek Plan
We get an early start from Dehradun and travel all the way to Sankri, where we plan to arrive in the evening. After passing past a check station in Netwar, the remaining portion of the journey will take us through the Govind Pashu National Park. The guest house or one of the campgrounds is where we spend the night.
After finishing our breakfast, we will drive from Sankri to Taluka. The ride is a little rough in spots. The gravel route leading to the start of the walk is located in Taluka. The stroll is made more enjoyable by the sound of the Supin River crashing over rapids on each side of us, as well as the walnut, pine, and other trees that provide shade. On our route, we are often greeted by locals who are out and about. The trail goes through a several creeks, all of which eventually flow into Supin. After a couple of hours of hiking, the hamlet of Gangad can be seen to the left, located on the other side of the river. We go on with our trip, and after a little over an hour of walking, the picturesque town of Osla comes into view. Seema is a small community that may be found on the other side of the river from Osla. We either put up our tents here or make arrangements to stay in a hut with a local family.
After breakfast, the trek from Seema to Boslo takes you deeper into the valley. The trail initially passes through the scenic villages and farmlands, offering a glimpse of the local life. After crossing a wooden bridge over the Supin River, the trail ascends gradually, providing panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. You’ll hike through stretches of lush green meadows and oak forests, eventually reaching the campsite at Boslo. The day ends with a campfire, followed by a restful night under the stars.
An early morning start is essential as you begin your ascent to Har Ki Dun. The trail takes you through beautiful meadows and small streams, with the mighty Swargarohini peaks towering in the distance. As you climb higher, the expansive Har Ki Dun valley opens up in front of you, with snow-capped mountains surrounding the area. After spending time at the summit, soaking in the breathtaking views and capturing memories, you will trek back to Boslo for an overnight stay.
Begin your descent from Boslo after breakfast, following the same route through the lush landscapes. As you walk, the Swargarohini peaks remain in view, gradually fading into the distance. Your journey continues until you reach the charming village of Gangad, situated on the opposite bank of the river from Osla. The traditional Garhwali homes here are a testament to the region's heritage, and you can interact with the villagers to learn more about their culture. Tonight, you will camp or stay in a homestay at Gangad.
On the final day of the trek, you’ll make your way back from Gangad to Taluka. The walk is mostly downhill, allowing you to appreciate the forests and river one last time. Upon reaching Taluka, a vehicle will be arranged to drive you back to Sankri. Once there, you can unwind at the campsite or a guesthouse, reflecting on the incredible journey you’ve completed.
This is the last day of the trek to Har ki Dun, and we will depart Sankri in the morning to make our way to Dehradun by the late afternoon.
