Trek Plan
Our journey kicks off bright and early as we depart from Dehradun, navigating through the enchanting landscapes of Nainbag and Damta. A stop at Purola, the last significant village on our route, reveals its charming farmlands and strong community ties, making it a worthwhile detour. Continuing deeper into the mesmerizing Tons Valley, we pass through the villages of Mori and Netwar, with the crystal-clear Rupin River accompanying us as we ascend its banks. Amidst this scenic backdrop, the tranquil village of Himri serves as a delightful midpoint between Netwar and Dhaula. The entire drive to Bheetri spans approximately 245 kilometers and immerses us in the stunning beauty of the Himalayas while fueling our sense of adventure. Bheetri itself is a vibrant agrarian village dedicated to the Whistling God (Sherkudeya Devta), honored in its central temple, and is home to around one hundred households.
On our second day, we embark on a trek to Kurla Thach. A short, picturesque 2-kilometer walk leads us to Sarutaal, a seasonal pond perched on a cliff’s edge. The breathtaking views of the Rupin Valley from here are truly awe-inspiring. After a brief break to soak in the surroundings, we set off on a forest trail that stretches for about 6 kilometers, eventually arriving at Kurla Thach. This serene clearing amidst the woods offers a perfect spot to unwind for the night.
The next morning, we rise early and start our ascent, climbing a few kilometers until we emerge from the forest. An easy half-hour hike takes us to Simon Tee, where we’re greeted by stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. Continuing along a series of gradually rising ridges, we make our way to Rikatik Odi, a significant junction connecting the Supin and Rupin valleys. From this vantage point, we can glimpse the villages of Bheetri and Dhaula on the Rupin side, while Kasla and Fitadi come into view across the Supin. Rikatik Odi sits at an elevation of about 3,520 meters, characterized by minimal vegetation—mainly shrubs and grasses—though it bursts with flowers during springtime. This high-altitude campsite provides unparalleled vistas of the Himalayas, setting the stage for an unforgettable night under the stars.
As we leave the stunning Rupin Valley behind, we set our sights on the picturesque Supin Valley. Our trek through the coniferous woods offers a gentle gradient that allows us to fully appreciate the beauty around us as we enter the tree line. Moving at a relaxed pace, we soon reach Phitadi village, known for its charming wooden houses with slate roofs. This is a perfect opportunity to interact with the friendly locals, as we can choose to stay in a homestay and immerse ourselves in their warm hospitality. The total trekking distance today is 7 kilometers, which we comfortably cover in four to five hours, blending adventure with cultural encounters in this inviting village.
On our final trekking day, we bid farewell to the peaceful ambiance of Phitadi village and make our way toward Jakhol. The trail winds through lush fields, leading us to Jakhol, the entry point to the Supin Valley. Here, we take time to explore the village, which features a significant temple dedicated to its deity. Our journey continues with a short hour’s drive to Sankri, where various guesthouses await us, providing a cozy space to relax and reflect on our adventure amidst the charm of this small village. Today’s trek spans 6 kilometers and takes about four hours, allowing us to enjoy the serene countryside before concluding our journey in Sankri.
As we begin our return to Dehradun, a mix of emotions fills the air. We retrace our steps along the stunning route that leads us back to the city, transitioning from the captivating pine forests to the bustling streets of Dehradun. The roads widen, and the familiar sights remind us of our incredible journey. As we reach the lively city, we bid a heartfelt farewell to the tranquil mountains and valleys of Uttarakhand, carrying with us lasting memories from our adventure.
