As the name suggests, this journey offers trekkers a chance to explore breathtaking lakes nestled within the majestic Himalayas. Each moment on the trail unveils scenes of such extraordinary beauty that it instills a profound appreciation for life itself. Picture towering mountains, meadows bursting with vibrant spring blooms, and lakes that shimmer like melted turquoise gems—words often fall short in capturing the magnificence that the trek promises.
Yet, this ever-changing landscape comes with its own challenges. Kashmir reveals its hidden treasures only to those who are willing to embrace perseverance and determination. The trek is categorized as moderate to difficult, making it essential for novice trekkers to acquire the necessary skills and experience. Even seasoned trekkers will find the journey demanding, but the rewards are more than worth it. Trek Plan
Our adventure begins at 11 AM at the Tourist Reception Centre in Srinagar, where the group will gather. From there, we will embark on a scenic drive to Sonamarg, where Shitkari village serves as the perfect base camp for our trek. Remember to bring your ID proof, along with two photocopies, as you’ll need to present these at the army check post.
After a hearty breakfast, we’ll set out for Nichnai, our campsite for the night. The trail is a slice of Kashmir’s paradise, flanked by maple and pine trees. As we ascend, the magnificent Sonamarg Valley unfolds before us, with bubbling streams leading to the lush meadows of Shekdur, which are surrounded by small peaks and Bhoj trees. This breathtaking spot is ideal for a well-deserved break to soak in the natural beauty. Following the Nichnai stream, we will arrive at our campsite where we’ll enjoy dinner and rest for the night.
After an early breakfast, we’ll make our way to the stunning Vishansar Lake, a site of deep significance for Kashmiri Pandits. The alpine forests and glacial gorges surrounding the lake create a captivating atmosphere for trekkers. As we ascend, the Nichnai pass reveals itself against the backdrop of twin peaks. Upon reaching the pass, we’ll be greeted by awe-inspiring views of Sonamarg Valley. Our descent is marked by flowering meadows and rivers, culminating in a picturesque waterfall. We’ll set up our camp near Vishansar Lake, with the rest of the day free for leisure activities. Dinner will be served before we settle in for the night.
After morning tea and breakfast, we’ll embark on our next leg of the journey. Located at an altitude of 12,170 feet, Kishansar Lake lies just above Vishansar Lake, offering breathtaking views of green meadows and crystal-clear waters. As we continue, the Gadsar Pass comes into view. A short distance later, we’ll encounter Yamsar Lake, which carries mythological significance in Hinduism. As we approach Gadsar Lake, its pristine beauty will captivate us. We’ll set up camp nearby and enjoy dinner, followed by a restful night under the stars.
After breakfast, we’ll set off toward our next destination: Satsar, which sits at 12,000 feet and is known for its collection of seven lakes, visible in various seasons. The trail leads us through lush forests, with rivers and valleys flanking our path. Soon, we’ll approach the ridge that marks the entrance to Satsar, near the Satsar Army camp. We’ll establish our campsite nearby, embracing the tranquility of the surroundings. Dinner will be served, followed by an overnight stay in our tents.
Following breakfast, we’ll continue our trek, which will involve both ascents and descents. The trail is full of surprises, leading us to a variety of ridges and unnamed lakes. Ultimately, we’ll arrive at Gangabal, the largest of the lakes, flanked by Nundkol Lake at the base of Harmukh Peak. We’ll set up camp at Nundkol and enjoy dinner before a peaceful night under the open sky.
After breakfast, we’ll begin our descent from the Gangabal campsite. The trail is lined with green canopies, gradually revealing traces of civilization as we approach Naranag at around 8,500 feet. Once we reach Naranag, we’ll drive back to Srinagar, marking the end of our incredible journey together.
